“I’ve been in several sober living facilities before and there were always too many people. Either that, or the staff wasn’t very attentive, and I could always go off and do what I wanted.  That wasn’t the case at Perimeter Recovery.

“Perimeter is a very tight-knit community. We had several meetings a week, cooked dinner together, and it was very community-based. It felt like home to me. I was there for 17 months. Bruce Friddle (the director) provided me with the one-on-one guidance I needed, and he continues to remain a mentor to me.

“Even to this day, years after being at Perimeter, I still talk with him a couple times a week. I also stay in close touch with other members of my community there.”

“I’ve met a few people who got sober from just attending Twelve Step Meetings on their own, but for me, and for the vast majority of other people I’ve met in recovery, I needed to be removed from society and given structure throughout the day and night. Perimeter gave me a safe place to be able to stay sober and work the Twelve Steps. I needed somebody to show me how it’s supposed to be done, telling me when to get to meetings, when to get a sponsor, and telling me to call my sponsor regularly.

“At Perimeter I was accounted for and accountable to other people. I had people looking out for me and caring about me. I had people to help me when I was slacking off and show me how things needed to be done if I was going to stay sober. I was handed a community on a plate.

“At Perimeter, Bruce is present and keeps tabs on everyone. Bruce molds young men. I came into Perimeter Recovery as a childish person. I didn’t know what it meant to be an adult. Bruce taught me about integrity, responsibility, honesty, looking out for my friends, and so many other things. I owe a lot of those lessons to what Bruce was able to give me in sober living.”

In addition to being in recovery, I’ve worked in the treatment field, and Perimeter is one of the few places I would recommend to people. Most sober living facilities are in giant apartment complexes churning people in and out, but Perimeter is located in two houses in a neighborhood.

“It feels like you are in a home. You have to participate in everything, so you feel like you are part of the community. Bruce is part of that community as well. People didn’t fall through the cracks.

“If you are serious about getting sober and wanting to change, then I couldn’t think of a better place to go.”
